Quality

With training in the northern region designed to promote quality in the use of the E2E Passport, pending, I thought it might be a good idea to give my own take on quality. Here is a simple five-point guide.

1. Environment With the availability of wireless networks and cheap laptops, it is now even easier to find a quiet corner to complete E2E Passport online. So why not take the opportunity to find somewhere away from general areas for a quiet discussion based on one of the assessment tools or a more meaningful Review.

2. Building up to the Plan Self awareness tools like Me, Barriers and Views are designed to put the learner in a position to develop a more meaningful Programme Plan. The role of the Initial Assessment Summary (IAS) tool is to bring together these assessments with others provide guidance about what needs to be achieved in the Programme Plan. Consider looking at IAS with the learner and attempting a summary of what needs to be done ahead of starting the Programme Plan.

3. Building Passport One of the main advantages of using the online version of E2E Passport is that information can be added in small amounts on a regular basis. If you adopt this policy, it may mean that you can avoid playing catch-up where you and/or the learner spend too much time entering data retrospectively. Remember - little and often will capitalise on the interactive nature of E2E Passport online.

4. Use Help I suspect not too many people bother with the online Help - the button to the top left of all Passport tools next Menu. As well as an introduction on how to complete each form, the Help window provides advice and guidance to key workers, advisers, mentor and tutors using the E2E Passport online. Many of the notes are based on the original guidance issued with the original E2E Passport. Trust me, they are well worth a read.

5. Review I believe the quality of a Review can be enhanced by completing the form online. You have the advantage of being able to see the previous set of targets and can refer to Notes added by colleagues in your own organisation and possibly from Connexions via a Secondary Adviser route. It may take a little more time, but the advantage is that the information entered is automatically stored on the system. If you want to edit the Review later to correct errors, simply Save Draft and make the changes later before doing a full Save.
